VitrA Concealed Cisterns

Concealed cisterns are a great way to achieve a much cleaner look in a bathroom. Whether you want to create more space by hiding the cistern away in a wall or cabinet, or you just like the look of a concealed cistern, VitrA can help.

As the name implies, concealed cisterns are just cisterns that are hidden from view. They perform precisely the same function as a suspended or close coupled cistern, though they will need a flush plate to use, as there will be no exposed part of the cistern to mount a traditional lever or pull chain to. A great addition to one of VitrA's toilets.

There are several advantages to a concealed cistern when compared to one of VitrA's close coupled toilets or a back to wall toilet and suspended cistern. The primary advantage is, of course, the look. By completely hiding the cistern away, you can achieve a simpler look and feel, with less of the plumbing cluttering up the bathroom. This can be great when you are going for a specific style, but it can also be excellent for small spaces.

If the cistern can be mounted inside the wall that the toilet will be backing onto, you can save a noticeable amount of space in your build. Of course, it is not always possible to build a cistern into the wall itself, but even with cisterns that are concealed in a cabinet or feature, you get additional counter space that you would not get with a close coupled toilet.

Another advantage to concealed cisterns is the fact that they hide all of the plumbing entirely. There are no exposed water feed pipes or waste pipes with this set-up, which helps with that minimalist look, but also helps keep things cleaner and more hygienic, since there will be fewer exposed surface areas for bacteria to breed on. And, of course, fewer exposed surface areas means less to clean.

This style of cistern is also very useful for restrooms in public and commercial settings. The aforementioned reduced surface area equates to considerably less cleaning time when factoring in several toilets, and the cistern is protected from the additional wear and tear that a public restroom is typically exposed to.

One of VitrA’s offerings in the concealed cistern market is the VitrA Back to Wall Concealed Cistern. This cistern is available in both standard and economic models, making it ideal for those looking to limit their water usage. The standard model can hold 3 to 6 litres of water, while the economic model can hold between 2.5 and 4 litres. This cistern can also be ordered for a lower height installation, such as would be needed if a toilet was to be installed below a window, or other bathroom feature.
